The Mormon Helping Hands program brings together members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their neighbours to provide community service. The helping hands programme begun in 1998, in South Africa with the aim of giving back to the community by donating thousands of hours of community service.

The Mormons programme includes educating their communities on the importance of environmental cleanliness and health. In some part of the continent school kids have been supplied with learning kit and school uniforms. In crisis such as floods and disasters the LDS Church reaches out to its best, with its own volunteers and donations at no cost. Church members worked with local government leaders to select projects that would be most beneficial to the community. Storm drains on busy streets were cleaned out, hospitals received a fresh coat of paint and public areas were spruced with flowers and grass.

 The LDS Church also created a program call the Benson Agriculture and Food Institute. This program helps families in underprivileged areas become nutritionally self-sufficient by teaching them ways to improve their food production. The programme runs mostly in rural areas whereby people need more knowledge on food production and nutrition’s, which are thought to benefit every individual. Make a difference in your community.
