With less than 33 days to go before the start of Grade 12 final exams, the Gauteng Education Department has urged learners to apply themselves with energy and dedication to the preliminary exams.
All systems are in place at schools to ensure that these examinations run smoothly. The prelim examinations are very important in a way that they serve as a practice session for learners to experience the examination conditions that they will face in the final examinations. They also contribute 25% of their year mark.
At this time of year learners are urged to do two things: set up small study groups to support each other with revision and take advantage of the different study groups and camps that offer metric support. There are TV programmes that help them revise their studies i.e. Metrics Uploaded, Social Media Impact on Education,
The Media Office is an SABC initiative aimed at empowering metric students by providing programmes to support their studies. SABC Education understands the importance of sharing information with media establishments. The support is provided by receive from print, radio, television and on-line journalists is appreciated. Journalists also help to spread support learning material by reaching as many readers, listeners and viewers as possible.
Families must be supportive during this time: make sure their son or daughter has a quiet corner for study, is relieved from household chores and has constant love and care. Remind them that while they are expected to do their best they will still be supported even if they do not do as well as they hoped they would do. They still have time to improve their results in the final metric exam.
Let us hope the teachers or leaners are ready because every year there are always bad news with these grade 12 exams.
